Dozens of surrounding and enwrapping mirror plates alternately show the reflection of the spectator’s face. This is combined with the gaze of an AI-generated human visage that does not belong to anyone in this world, creating a quick alternation of images of the self and an imagined other. Based on the spectator’s distance from the installation, the scattered speakers converse between two people. From quiet murmurs to loud commotion, the viewer will approach and then move away from the installation. As members of society, we are unavoidably influenced by the norms, expectations, and identities of various social and group cultures, which subtly shape us. These external projections and our internalization of self affect our everyday conversations, thoughts, and actions. While they can drive progress, they also impose pressure on individuals. I invite everyone to confront the narratives and constraints imposed by the big other through WHISPER to reclaim their self-interpretation.
