Return to Zeelandia is a multi-user, free-roaming VR experience that fuses history, immersive technology, and cultural perspectives. Co-developed by Flash Forward Entertainment and MoonShine Studio, written by novelist Chu Ho-chih and directed by Hung Wei-Yao, it reconstructs 17th-century Fort Zeelandia and its port town, marking the moment Taiwan first appeared on the world map.
Guided by the fictional Siraya spirit “Ning-O,” audiences journey through four vivid scenes: boarding a Dutch East Indiaman, witnessing the Zheng–Dutch naval battle, riding a cable car to view the fort’s construction, and overlooking the bustling port of Dayuan. Combining VR, spatial tracking, and multi-user networking, the work allows participants to roam freely in physical space while engaging with dynamic virtual history.
Blending cultural heritage with innovation, Return to Zeelandia brings to life a long-overlooked yet pivotal chapter, creating a sensory bridge between past and present.
