2025 Innovative Co-production: VR Game Early Access Production Program

Foreword

With a vision of enlarging VR game market, TAICCA collaborates with Astrea on the “2025 Innovative Co-production: VR Game Early Access Production Program” with joint resources to support Taiwanese creative teams in producing profitable cultural technology content that can be distributed on the online platform, Meta, for proofing and broadening the international market and develop a sustainable business model.

Eligibility projects

  • 6DOF single player VR game developed specifically for VR platforms, and must target compatibility with Meta Quest 2 or 3.
  • The game must emphasize fun, engagement, and repeatability. No duration limit.
  • The game must be designed to accommodate both novice and experienced VR players.
  • The applicant should be the intellectual property (IP) owner of the original game.
  • The game hasn’t been publicly released, and is ready to prototype the early access version.
  • Exclusions: projects designed for a single playthrough, or not intended for eventual public release or commercial events.

 

Project requirements

  • The proposal shall include: game design, game experience, interactivity design, budget, production and marketing schedule, team bios. Links to testing builds of the proposal project or demonstrative videos will be appreciated.
  • Proof of business: 
    • The applicant must provide a market analysis for the proposal plan, detailing the current market situation, target audience, benchmark analysis, role or brand advantages, etc., and provide a preliminary sales plan and revenue evaluation.
    • If other income models can be developed based on the content and attributes of the proposal plan will be appreciated.
  • The deck should be submitted in Chinese and English respectively, and each version must not exceed 25 pages.

 

Eligibility of applicants

  • Companies, sole proprietorships / partnerships, or profit-making entities that are registered under Company Act and Business Registration Act of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) laws.
  • If the applicant is under one of the 11 circumstances mentioned in Article 5.7. of the Program, it is not eligible to apply or receive the grant of the Program.
  • Each applicant (including joint applicant) can only submit one proposal. 
     

How to apply

  • Application period: until 5 pm, June 5, 2025 (GMT+8). (Submission time will be based on the timestamp recorded by the online application system.)
  • Application method: Please register on the online application system and complete the application form. All required documents must be uploaded within the designated period.
  • Announcement of Results (Tentative): The final approval list will be announced in July 2025.

 

Grant and resources 

  • Grant:
    • Each project will receive a maximum grant of NT$1.2 million (tax included, approx. USD 36,363). The Program will support 1 to 3 projects.
    • The applicant must provide part of their own funding based on the scale of the proposals. There is no maximum limit on the proportion of the supporting funds, but the amount of self-provided funds must not be less than NT$600,000 (tax included, approx. USD 18,181).
  • Resources that the Partner will provide: production tracking and mentoring, user tests, quality assurance, publication, industry connections, marketing & communication.

 

Revenue Sharing

Revenue from online platform sales of the content products developed under this Program (the Early Access version of the VR game):

  • After the initial launch, Astrea shall first recoup its marketing costs invested in, after Meta’s thirty percent (30%) platform fee from the gross sales revenue of the game. The exact amount of marketing costs will be determined before the publication.
  • For a period of six (6) months following the end of recoupment abovementioned, the gross sales revenue from game sales shall be distributed as follows: Meta shall receive thirty percent (30%) platform fee; TAICCA shall receive fourteen percent (14%); Astrea shall receive fourteen percent (14%); and the approved applicant shall receive forty-two percent (42%).
  • Starting from the seventh month after the end of the recoupment, the gross sales revenue from game sales shall be distributed as follows: Meta shall receive thirty percent (30%) platform fee; Astrea shall receive twenty-one percent (21%); and the approved applicant shall receive forty-nine percent (49%).

 

Notification

  • The approved applicant should complete the production of the early access version VR game and of the related marketing assets for publication on Meta Horizon Store for sales by December 30, 2025; provide a report of the current outcome by January 20, 2026.
  • The approved applicant shall, within two months after the completion of the six-month proof of business or no later than December 30, 2026, provide its final report. Failure to submit the materials within the designated time, TAICCA may recover the second installment already paid and shall impose a suspension of eligibility.
